Is "queer" the right word?
Some say that queer is a slur. Others see it as an excellent term for all those outside the cisgender/heterosexual majority.
Since the early 1990s an increasing number of gender diverse and non-heterosexual people have been using it as an umbrella term for all kinds of variance in the realms of sexuality and gender.
At the same time the LGBT+ abbreviations have become complex to the point of absurdity (LGBTQQIP2SAA anyone?).
We argue that queer is an open and inclusive alternative to the alphabet soup.
