Trans woman: Am I a woman or is it just a fetish?
The "autogynephilia" theory continues to ruin trans people's lives.
There is a question that is often posed in queer and transgender forums: "Am I a woman or is it just a fetish?" This inquiry arises from a culture that leverages sexual diversity to delegitimize gender diversity.
The "autogynephilia" theory, which seeks to pathologize transgender experiences is now largely discredited. While some groups, such as TERFs, still use this theory to vilify transgender women, the primary argument against trans people has shifted towards conspiratorial narratives of leftist agendas.
Younger generations tend to be more accepting of sexual diversity, recognizing the autogynephilia theory as a relic of oppressive societal norms. Nonetheless, some individuals, particularly those seeking explanations for their experiences in conservative environments, may still be drawn into the pathologizing narrative, viewing their gender variance as a disorder in need of a cure.
Over at Crossdream Life one member reports struggling with understanding their gender identity in relation to Ray Blanchard's autogynephilia (AGP) narrative. They recount experiencing sexual fantasies about being female or emasculated during childhood. At 34, they are now undergoing medical transition, having lived as their female self since 2022 and started hormone replacement therapy (HRT) soon after.
